Letter from the Superintendent - May 2016
Dear Southgate Parents/Guardians,
The Board of Education, Administration, and all District employees are committed to providing a safe learning and work environment. Perception surveys were recently completed that are required annually. Several safety concerns have appeared in the "comments " section of those surveys that I would like to address.
Safe Drinking Water: We recently employed Arch Environmental Group to conduct water tests at all of our buildings. I am happy to report that the water in all locations is safe to use.
Bullying: The Board policy regarding bullying can be found on the District's homepage www.southgateschools.com under "Bullying Stops Here" (scroll down the left side of the page and you will see the stop sign shaped button). Individual reports of bullying may be made on the "Incident Reporting Form" available in the main office of every building in the district.
Weapons in School: "The possession of a weapon in or on school property, at school events, or in any vehicle used for school purposes is prohibited. Any student in violation of the above shall be subject to disciplinary action and/or prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the law."
There are times when students have access outside of school to items that are classified as weapons. Please help us keep our schools safe by checking their belongings and reminding them that those items may not be brought to school.
Student Code of Conduct: These documents can be found on the district webpage under the tabs for individual buildings. They provide important information for both students and parents.
What to do when there is a problem at school: Questions or Concerns?
PLEASE USE THE FOLLOWING PROCESS:
Step 1 Contact a teacher or staff member most closely associated with the issue. At the secondary level, concerns and questions may also be directed to the school counselors.
Step 2 If unresolved...Contact the Building Principal or Assistant Principal. IEP concerns may also be directed to the Director or Assistant Director of Special Education.
Step 3 If unresolved... Contact the Superintendent, Ms. Hainrihar. If you are not sure whom to contact, your call will be directed to an appropriate staff member.
Flyers with additional information are available in the main office of every building in the district. A District copy is included with this letter. (Download Communicating Concerns Flyer )
Thank you for choosing to send your children to Southgate Schools, for your support in their education, and for your assistance in helping us provide a safe learning environment.
